Driving knowledge forward

Advancing research through deep academic collaboration

Our academic partners play a vital role in shaping the future of high-tech systems. Universities bring fundamental knowledge, innovative techniques, and fresh perspectives that fuel our research. Through close collaboration with leading institutions: Delft University of Technology, Eindhoven University of Technology, Radboud University, University of Amsterdam, and University of Twente, we ensure that our work is grounded in science and aligned with industry needs.

As Benny Akesson, Science Lead at TNO‑ESI, highlights in an interview with Bits&Chips:

“The complexity of high‑tech equipment is increasing, affecting all phases of system development. For a company, failure to manage this complexity can lead to errors, delays and cost overruns… At ESI, we conduct applied research, bringing the academic state‑of‑the‑art into the industrial state‑of‑the‑practice.”

This sentiment reflects the driving force behind our strategic academic collaborations.

This collaboration goes beyond research. It creates a seamless pipeline from academic discovery to industrial application, supported by initiatives like the MasCot program and joint PhD projects.

Several of our colleagues hold part-time professorships, strengthening the link between education, valorization, and real-world challenges. Together, we orchestrate a triangular interplay between universities, companies, and ESI, turning academic insights into practical solutions and preparing the next generation of engineers.
