Build competence

Developing high-tech systems is complex - not just because of advanced technologies, but due to multi-disciplinary challenges in a dynamic, multi-stakeholder environment. To manage this complexity, engineering competencies must align with roles, responsibilities, and development phases.

Shaping the Problem & Solution

Early stages involve high ambiguity. Architects and stakeholders define system concepts, focusing on customer value and business propositions.

Guiding & Balancing Design

Domain architects and lead designers make conceptual choices, trade-offs, and manage system behavior at (sub-)system level.

Applying Engineering Methods & Tools

Engineers ensure completeness and correctness of components using company processes, tools, and technologies.

A competency consists of a combination of knowledge, skills and mindset. We therefore talk about what you KNOW, DO and ARE. In order to develop a competency, all three should be taken into account. At an engineering level, the emphasis is more on the application of approaches, methods and tools in a team environment. When you move ‘up’ to design and architecting, the focus shifts more towards system-level reasoning, the ability to make trade-offs at a conceptual level and the development of a mindset capable of dealing with the increasing complexity and ambiguity.
