System Architecting

Why System Architecting is critical in an organisation?

High‑tech system companies face multiple, simultaneous challenges: they must innovate in competitive markets while managing growing complexity - from tailoring solutions to customer needs and integrating with other systems to overseeing the full system lifecycle.
Because this complexity influences every development stage, getting the design right from the start is critical for organisational success. The system architecting programme line supports this by helping organisations translate market, product, and technology choices into solid system concepts, enabling them to address these challenges effectively.

Training overview

Our portfolio includes a variety of systems architecting and design workshops, courses, and micro-learnings. Below is an outline of the key topics and formats:
  • System design training
  • Systems architecting course
  • DAARIUS workshop
  • Reference architecture for product families
  • Functional decomposition
  • Workflow modeling
  • Developing A3architectural overviews
  • Conceptual visualisation

System architecting course

This 3–4 day course strengthens the system‑level and architectural competencies needed in modern high‑tech development, helping system architects translate market and product objectives into integrated technical solutions. By the end, participants gain a fundamental understanding of system architecting and learn to reason about architectures from marketing, business, and R&D perspectives.

On the following video, you will see an introduction to System Architecting.

Course formats

The course can be offered in-person, blended, or fully online format.

In-person format

In the in-person format, participants work in teams on a real product development case from their company, applying the course concepts directly. The interactive sessions result in a high-level concept for presentation to management.

Blended

The blended course consists of 3 modules. The first online learning module is the individual’s own preparation for the remainder of the course. The second module is a 3-days in-person workshop. The closing module concerns reflective homework, which will also be carried out online. All modules include teacher interaction.

Online

The online format combines video lectures, remote coaching, and teamwork. Participants study the materials, apply them to a company assignment, and meet regularly with a remote coach - making this format ideal for distributed teams or those seeking external perspective.

Content overview

Module 1 Introduction

A preparation module on the system architect’s role and system‑level reasoning, with short videos, readings, and project reflection to define learning goals, supported by interactive sessions before Module 2.

Module 2 Deepen Insights

A 3‑day face‑to‑face workshop deepens the insights and personal learning goals from Module 1 while introducing additional architecting approaches applied in a team assignment. Afterwards, learners select three key learning goals to discuss internally.

Module 3 Embed insights

This module helps learners apply their insights in daily practice by reflecting on their learning goals with a senior system architect or manager from their company. It also includes remote peer discussions and an evaluation session with the teacher.
